We rehearse on Mondays and Thursdays from 7.45pm until about 10 o'clock, when some members repair to the local hostelry.
Allan's wife, Nancy, has just left him and is applying for a divorce. Unable to deal with his emotional turmoil, he seeks solace in the films he loves, imagining that Humphrey Bogart has dropped in to his flat to offer advice on dealing with the ladies ("Dames are simple. I never met one yet that didn't understand a slap in the mouth or a slug from a forty-five"). Helping Allan meet new women are his friends Dick and Linda Christie. They fix him up with a number of dates, all of which prove disastrous due to Allan's nervousness and insecurity. Finally, Allan realises that he has been spending more time with Linda than anyone else and that he is becoming attracted to her - and she proves unexpectedly receptive to his advances ....
